Happy Wednesday Parents!

We began our day today with some more math review in preparation for our math test tomorrow! We went over the entire review today as a class to ensure that everyone understands all of the different questions, we focused on some questions in particular that are more challenging! The class then worked from the textbook review while I circulated and offered assistance where needed!

In language we worked hard on our Christmas concert play! I am so excited and most of the students have their parts completely memorized! We are now working on bigger expressions and using loud, clear voices while speaking!

After lunch, recess, and French we had another very exciting day in UOI students learned about static electricity! We started by watching a short video to try and decipher what the definition of static electricity is and then we were very good inquirers again to see how different objects reacted to a positively charged balloon (charged by rubbing our hair!) some objects stuck and some didn't! We learned that opposites attract! Objects with the same charge will not touch but those with opposite charges will pull together!

After second lunch and recess we went over a few more important math concepts and then we went to classes to collect donations for the food and toy drive! The tree in the front lobby is still looking a little bit bare! We then headed to gym, and completed agendas before kiss and ride!

Happy Tuesday Parents!

We began our day here in grade 3 with math! We started by covering some of the math review questions that were written wrong on the review. We then covered some of the questions that the students had trouble with on the homework. We then spent the period working on review for our test on Thursday. We paused to focus on any questions the students had trouble with and I circulated to offer one-on-one help where needed.

We then had our very first “brain break” we played teacher says (like Simon Says) in between math and beginning Language. Once we completed our brain break the students got their wiggles out and were much more focussed in class. For language the students learned how to make an effective prediction based on the clues in the beginning of the text, the pictures, and the title of the story.

After recess, lunch, and French the students then worked on UOI where we learned about magnetic force. We began by learning that magnets can cause both a push and a pull force! We then were inquirers again and saw if different objects were magnetic or not. We ended the lesson by adding magnetic force to our list of UOI Word Wall.

After second lunch and recess, we had music with Mr. Oliver, and Gym with Mr. H. We ended the day with completing agendas before heading off to kiss and ride!

Happy Monday Parents!

We began our day today with some exciting awards and activities in the auditorium! We gave out the Thinker awards for November, our friend Adn was nominated by the class to receive the Thinker award! Way to go Adn! We then found out who won the Science Fair! It was a super close race and we came in THIRD! I am so proud of our class! We then ended the assembly with a house game where students competed in their houses for house points and the whole school learned that I am not very good at soccer!

We also had two action stars today! Our friend Karina has a sleepover at the Bradley Museum and made a teddy bear out of cloth! She learned a lot about Pioneers! Emana also used her knowledge of making dolls like pioneers to make a doll at home.

In math we focused on Naming Numbers in Different Ways. Students learned about writing numbers in standard form, using pictures, writing the base-ten name, using base-ten blocks, and using a place-value chart. Students also received the review for their test this Thursday!

In language we began by discussing adjectives, students played apples to apples using adjectives and pictures cards to learn how to use the best adjectives to describe different nouns! We then worked on the Christmas Concert Script, students are beginning to memorize their parts! In terms of costumes students are to be wearing pajamas (festive if possible!) and have "Who-Style" hair. I will send along pictures in an email shortly to help you get some ideas.

After lunch, recess, and French we had a very fun and inquiry-based UOI lesson today. We had different stations set up to help students learn about different kinds of forces including Buoyancy, Friction, Muscle Force, and Gravity. Students circulated the room and performed different tasks at each center. They had so much fun asking questions and becoming thinkers, and inquirers.

After second lunch and recess our friend Caitlyn who has been away for a little while presented her pioneer video which the whole class really enjoyed! We then headed off to gym. We ended the day with time to complete agendas and work on spelling and math homework before kiss and ride!

Happy Friday Parents!

We had such a wonderful day in grade 3! When the students arrived this morning they had a big surprise planned for me! They all hid behind their desks and jumped up when I entered the room to say Happy Birthday! They then led me to a chair where they gave me such lovely homemade gifts and cards they had all signed! It almost made me cry! They all worked together so well to give me such a wonderful surprise for my birthday this weekend!

After my surprise we had some fun with math by using pipe cleaners to make the “greater than” and “less than” symbols. We then worked together to identify if a number was greater than or less than another using the alligator analogy (the alligator wants to eat the greater number).

After math did our spelling test and then we had time to practice for the Christmas concert, we practiced using our biggest and clearest voices while saying our lines! Please parents if you could let me know if students will not be attending the Christmas concert as soon as possible, as we are doing a play and all of the students have speaking roles (so they would be very missed if they won’t be able to make one of the shows!, and I will have to make other arrangements!).   

After lunch, recess, and French we worked on expanding our knowledge of forces and push and pull forces. We began with our friend Caitlyn reading a forces book that she got at the library, she was given an action award for using what we are learning in class and doing something to expand her knowledge or make use of her learning at home! After she read to the class we came up with a definition for push and pull. The class then had a scavenger hunt and were required to identify movements that required only a push, only a pull, or both! Then we had some extra fun, we used scooters and skipping ropes to push and pull our friends around the hallway and to see the difference and determine if one was easier or harder than another.

We ended the day with music adn gym before completing agendas and heading off to kiss and ride!

Happy Thursday Parents!

We had a very busy day here in grade 3! We began our day with ArtReach! I went with the students who signed up for ArtReach to the auditorium where we painted a wonderful picture on canvas! It was amazing to see the students who were so excited about art! The students who didn’t sign up were not left out! They were in the class making decorations for the Christmas concert with Mrs. Smith!

After lunch, recess, and French we had an IB lesson on the new month’s learner profile attribute. This month we are focussing on communicators! We began by reading a book and discussing how the book related to being a communicator. We then played two different games that showed how important it is to be a good communicator, and use your words, body language, and other forms of communication to express your feelings! We played broken telephone, where we learned about the importance of telling someone something directly or the message might get changed, and we played identify the object which stressed how sometimes it can be difficult to use our words to communicate an idea and the importance of using the right words!

After second lunch and recess we came back to class and discussed ordinal numbers again, I felt as though some of the students had a hard time with the homework so I wanted to go over it in more detail!

We finished the day with gym and agendas before heading off to kiss and ride!
