Good Afternoon Parents and Happy Tuesday!

Today we began our day with math; we started by working on a problem solving question together as a class (the final question on the math review sheet). We went over it 3 times together as a class and then I went to each person individually to ensure that they understood how to complete the question.

They should be able to complete the question on the review sheet with very little assistance. We then worked on subtraction word problems. The class is very good at answering word problems, they know that if a question is asked in words they must answer in a sentence! Please remember that our unit test for Patters in Addition and Subtraction is on Thursday, and therefore the math review work is due tomorrow so that I can ensure students are prepared for their test.

After math we began our novel unit on Little House in the Big Woods. I am so excited that we are beginning this novel study together. We read the first chapter together as a class, and then we used the description that Laura gave of her house in the book to complete a diagram of both the inside and the outside of her house. This novel coincides directly with our next UOI unit that I am also very excited about! The students had many questions about LHBW and life back in the late 1800’s.

After recess, lunch, and French, we continued with our UOI unit on safety. Today we talked about fire safety. We began with a discussion of how to prepare your house in case of an emergency related to fire. Then we worked on creating “escape plans” for a floor plan of a house. The students worked on finding the quickest and safest route out of a house in case of a fire.

After second recess and lunch we continued our UOI and language work. The students had time to finish their LHBW work, along with their fire escape plans. This time was used as a catch-up for students who needed extra time to complete work. We also had our last Manners Around the World presentation during this time. We completed our agendas before heading to the gym.
Mr. H was away today so Ms. Ross and I led a very fun and interactive phys-ed class for the two grade 3 classes.

Today we had our very first action star! Our friend Krina went to a very interesting place to learn more about Safety for our UOI unit. She wants to keep it a secret until her UOI presentation to surprise the class! Here she is with her Star certificate!
