Happy Wednesday Parents!
We are already half way through the week here in grade 3! We
began our day with Math where we were introduced to our new unit on Patterning
and Place Value. In a large group we estimated how many cubes were in a box. Then
we brainstormed what would be the easiest way to count all of the cubes! The
class decided that counting by ten’s was the best way so I gave each student
ten to hold onto then we counted by ten’s and we counted all of the cubes!
Afterward each table group were given different items to sort and count using
different strategies, many used addition and grouping to count all of the
objects!
In language we continued working on our Science Fair
Project, we began by writing down the procedure for making a balloon cannon and
wrote out the materials we would need with our science partners. Then we each
made our very own cannon! We tested our cannons by launching maltesers (small
chocolates), cotton balls, and rocks-it was interesting to see the different
heights that the balloon cannons could shoot objects!
After lunch, recess, and French we had time to begin our UOI
summatives for pioneers. The students were given and organizer and chose
whether they would take on the role of an adult or child. Their job is to
describe a day in their life as a pioneer! I have seen some creative choices so
far and I am very interested to see how they turn out!
After second lunch and recess the students had music and gym
before doing agendas and heading off to kiss and ride.
