We had a great Friday yesterday in grade 3! In math we began our unit on fractions. Like I had expected the students had a great understanding of fractions before beginning the unit. We discussed how different shapes can be divided into equal parts. We also talked about smaller and bigger fractions. For example we learned that 1/2 is greater than 1/3 because it is a bigger piece of the whole! Students demonstrated their understanding by completing some work in their textbooks.
In language we learned about reviewing and editing our work- a really important skill! We took our letters and read over them using a checklist to ensure that we had all of the components needed to make sure our letters were a level 4! By the end of the lesson we had some amazing, detailed letters!
After lunch, recess, and french, we came back to class and had our spelling test. In UOI I gave the groups some time to practice their community group presentations before we formed and audience and watched the amazing presentations. It was great to see how much effort went into the presentations, the students used their research skills in order to create amazing presentations that taught the rest of their classmates about different communities.
After second lunch and recess we spent some time doing a much needed clean of the classroom in order to prepare the room for our open house today! We ended the day with gym before heading off to kiss and ride where we gave Mr. H our signed t-shirt from all of the PYP students that he teaches! We will miss him so much!
