What's Happening at SJA?

We always have so much happening here at St. Jude's our staff and students work hard all year to offer different events for the students to participate in to showcase their hard work and talents. Here is what is happening:
Exhibition:
A note from your Grade 6 class : Dear SJA Families,
The Grade 6 class invites you to attend the Exhibition on Friday, May 5, 2017, from 9 am to 11 am, or from 6 pm to 8 pm in the auditorium.
The Exhibition is the culminating task of the IB Primary Years Programme. It is where students work collaboratively to explore a local issue that interests them.  This year’s Grade 6s have chosen the following topics to explore:

Terrorism
Elder Abuse/Neglect
Physician-Assisted Dying
Developmental Disabilities
Animal Abuse/Neglect
Immigration
Garbage Pollution
Climate Change
Crime

Some great reasons why you should attend if your child is NOT in Grade 6 include:
·         Supporting and celebrating with the Grade 6s
·         Learning about these issues
·         Being aware of what will be expected of your child when they are in Grade 6
We hope to see you then.

Sincerely,
The Grade 6 Class

We will be viewing the presentations next Friday. This is a 6 week long project that the Grade 6’s work very hard on. So, if you can make please show your support. We will be watching presentations that are appropriate for the grade 3's. If you have any concerns please feel free to contact me!

An Answer to the Lost Uniform Items! Iron-On Name Labels!

Happy Thursday Parents!

The short week is almost over already! We began our day today with math where we learned about repeating patterns with three attributes. The class even took up the work together today to ensure the students understood the key concepts!

In language we began with a quick review of how to properly use quotation marks and then the students spent the period working on their summative storyboards!

After lunch, recess and french the class came back and we co-constructed success criteria for our summative assignment. This is to teach the students to be responsible for their learning and to ensure that they all understand and had a part in making the criteria for this assignment! They came up with some very amazing ideas and connected the assignment to everything we have learned so far in the unit! They spent the rest of the period working on storyboards and starting rough drafts of their stories!

Happy Wednesday Parents!

We had an interesting day today in third grade! We were joined by Ms. Hung's class! We started our day with Math where we learned about repeating patterns. We learned how to identify the core of a pattern (the repeating part) and how to identify the attributes (characteristics) that are changing (size, shape, etc!).

The students had gym during Ms, Hung's regular gym time and after they returned we investigated into how to write a dedication for a story. Students looked at stories and we decided what was similar about their dedications and then students wrote their very own dedications.

After lunch, recess, and gym, the students had time to work on their summative stories. Students began writing story boards to help them organize their thoughts and ideas in a way that makes sense.

After second lunch and recess we spent more time working on our summatives and then we had a quick math review to help the students feel prepared for their homework tonight.

Important Information:

  • Math homework 182-183
  • Corrections 180-181
  • Read 25 minutes
  • Spelling Lesson 25

Happy Tuesday Parents!

It is great to be back in class after a nice long weekend! We began our day with math where we learned about growing patterns! We used pattern blocks to make patterns and then draw a table and write out a pattern rule to explain the patterns we made!

In language we wrote About the Author sections for our summative assignments. We started by looking through books to investigate what the About the Author section includes. We then used an organizer to write a rough draft and then completed a good copy for their final summative assignments!

After lunch, recess, and French, we began the planning process of our summative assignments. The class is starting with a graphic organizer that we will use to help us create a story board for our final stories. I am excited to see that many people are choosing different genres of stories! We also brainstormed other words to choose instead of said!

Hello Parents!

Yesterday our day began quite interestingly! Some of the students noticed mysterious eggs around the classroom! I told them that I had no idea where they came from but that we should check the room to find all of them! Each student found an egg with their name on it!

For math the class completed a mystery challenge-they had to solve a series of number patterns and the rules helped them figure out a mystery sentence!

In language we worked on writing poetry as part of our UOI unit. The class made beautiful shape poetry in different Easter shapes including bunnies, baskets, flowers, and eggs! They really used the new figurative language tools we have learned about including alliteration and similes! They look amazing!

After lunch, recess, and French we made Easter sock bunnies! The students personalities really came through as they each decorated their own bunny!

We ended the day with a classroom dance party before handing out treats from friends and heading to kiss and ride!
