Happy Tuesday Parents!
We had a great day here in Grade 3, we began our day with
Math where we used manipulatives (base ten blocks) to practice adding and
subtracting 2-digit numbers! We then moved onto Language where the students
worked on their Friendship Stories and have introduced the main problem into their
story,
After recess and lunch the students had French. When they
came back we had a very eventful and interactive lesson on bullying. We began
by reading a story together as a class and then participated in the toothpaste
activity. The students had to squeeze out all of the toothpaste from a bottle
and try to get it back in with a toothpick. This was to symbolise the effect of
bullying on a person’s feelings, and that once mean words are spoken they
cannot be taken back.
We had some amazing discussions during this inquiry
activity, some of the amazing comments from classmates include:
“we are responsible for making friends and keeping them”
“we are responsible for making sure no one is a bully:
“it is hard to make people feel better but is its easy to
make them feel bad” (speaking to the idea of apologizing and being kind after being
hurtful).
“whatever we promise to do we have to actually do”
Next we worked on creating an “Anti-bullying” contract for
our class, which we came up with together and signed to show that we will act
as responsible individuals and we respectful and kind to others.
After lunch and recess we worked on our narrative skills by journaling
about a real or made up dream or nightmare we had.
We finished the day with gym!
