Happy Wednesday Parents!

We had a wonderful day here in grade 3! We began our day with Math where we compared area and perimeter of shapes. The students learned that the same shape can have different areas and perimeters! We had the opportunity to work with geoboards today. The students made three different shapes (one had to be irregular!) and calculated the area and the perimeter of each of their shapes!

In language we worked on irregular past-tense verbs, we played past-tense verb bingo! The students were given the present tense verb and on their card they had to identify the past-tense version! In the second half of language we made a wreath out of our handprints and made poppies on honor of Remembrance Day. We talked about the contribution that the soldiers have made and why we have a day of to remember the sacrifice of those who gave their lives to keep us safe.

In UOI we first discussed how pioneers travelled long distances. We talked about how now we can use our cars to travel across the country, but in pioneer times they had to use wagons and that everything they needed had to fit in the wagon for the journey. The students then used their critical thinking skills to add different items to their “wagon” in their table groups and still remain under the maximum weight. We talked about how difficult it would have been to bring everything you need, and how we would need to make wise choices as to what is really a necessity. The students worked very hard to think about what they would need.

We ended the day with our Remembrance Day ceremony, the students were all very respectful during the presentations and we had the chance to write letters to veterans to thank them for all that they have done for us!
