We had a great (and sunny!) day here in grade 3! We began our day with math where we learned about new shapes (parallelogram, rhombus, trapezoid, hexagon, and pentagon). Students learned to identify these shapes based on their sides (their length, distance apart, and how many there are). Students made examples on geoboards!
In language we began our new unit of persuasive writing. Students learned about OREO a format that is used to write a persuasive speech to ensure that you have enough examples and reasons to support your opinion. Students watched two stories called Earrings and I Wanna Iguana and then they used a graphic organizer in order to organize the main characters opinion and the supporting reasons for their opinions. We will be transferring this concept and format into their own persuasive writing.
After lunch, recess, and French we spent some extra time with Math, I noticed that students had been having trouble with their homework-especially drawing figures so we had more time to practice in class. Then we learned about what soil is, brainstormed how it is important to different people and then we used our mason jars to collect soil samples from outside. We mixed them with water and shook them up-I cant wait to see what happens!
After second lunch and recess we ended the day with Music, Gym, and agendas before heading off to kiss and ride.
