Happy Friday Parents!
Today we began with math games which were centered around
our current unit on patterns in addition and subtraction. The kids had a lot of
fun playing with their classmates and working cooperatively.
When the students came back from French they had their spelling
test, thank you all for preparing all of the students for the test today, they
will receive a new set of words on Monday. After spelling we learned about
creating effective hooks for the introductions of our narratives we began
yesterday. In groups we worked on coming up with one of the 5 techniques to
hooking a reader in with the hopes that this will help the students to come up
with creative introductions to their topics. We had some really creative responses!
At the end of the day we worked on finishing our story
mountain planners, and worked on the introductions for our friendship stories
which are coming together nicely!
Before kiss and ride we had our first Reading Buddies with
the JK’s, we are hoping to continue this all year, as it will be great for both
the JK’s and our students has well! Our students did so incredibly well at
reading buddies, they were responsible, demonstrated their manners, and their maturity-I
am so proud of all of them!
Important Reminders:
-Math inquiry question: another math inquiry question has
been handed out to be returned on Monday for house points.
-Mountain Planner: students were given 2 periods in class to
finish their mountain planners in preparation for writing their friendship
stories, if they were not finished they were assigned as homework over the
weekend, please ensure that they are completed and returned on Monday.
-Reading Logs: I have sent home reading logs; these will be
returned to school each Monday, and checked to ensure that each student is
reading at home. Children should be reading at least 20 minutes per day. Please
sign off on their reading logs before returning them to school.
-book orders are due by September 30th, please
send the forms with a cheque to school or order online. No cash will be
accepted at the school.
-please ensure that your child’s uniform pieces are labelled
on Monday! We have been losing uniform pieces and haven’t been able to track
them down without knowing who they belong to! Thank you!
-October lunch forms have been sent home please return with
money as soon as possible if your child would like hot lunches for October.
-please sign spelling test and return to school on Monday.
