Happy Wednesday Parents!
We had a great day here in grade 3! We worked very hard and learned
so much! We began with math where we learned about mixed-numbers and improper
fractions. We learned that fractions can be improper (ex. 11/4), and we learned
how to change that number into a mixed-number (ex. 2 ¼ ) I have posted how to
change a fraction to a mixed number and visa-versa below to help with homework.
After math, we learned about debates. We discussed what a
debate is, how we should use facts to support our opinions in order to make a
stronger argument, and we also learned how to decide what what our own opinion is.
We played a game called lines of argument where students either agreed with a
statement or were against a statement and moved to different sides of the room.
After lunch, recess, French, we started working on our own
debate. Students were working in groups, half the class is assigned to be the
country and the other half is the city. They are working together to come up
with arguments to explain why their community is better than the other. They
are being great communicators!
I would like to congratulate our two poem finalists for
Fridays competition. All of our class performed very well and I am so proud of
them! Emana and Shane will represent our class on Friday!
After second lunch and recess we spent more time planning
for our debate.
We ended the day with gym and agendas before heading off to
kiss and ride.
